Our Day

At London Lane Daycare, we believe in a well-rounded approach to early childhood learning; one that blends structured activities with independent play, allowing children to grow in a fun, engaging, and developmentally appropriate way. While our daily schedule evolves based on the needs, interests, and abilities of the children in our care, we always strive to provide a balanced mix of play-based learning, gentle structure, and hands-on exploration. Below are a few examples of what we like to include in each day:

INDOOR FREE PLAY

Children have the freedom to choose from a variety of toys and activities that support fine motor development, spark creativity, and encourage positive social interactions. Activities may include stacking and sorting toys, activity tables, cars, building blocks, musical instruments, books, and puzzles. Depending on arrival and departure times, as well as the activity level of the children, free play may take place outdoors or in our indoor activity room for gross motor movement.

CIRCLE TIME

We start our day together with an interactive morning routine that includes weather observations, days of the week, and a new daily topic. Circle time is designed to promote early literacy, group participation, and social-emotional skills– all while keeping children engaged through songs, movement, and dance parties!

CREATIVE PLAY

Through group and individual activities, children develop cognitive and fine motor skills while expressing their creativity. Activities include crafts, coloring, letter and number recognition games, and sensory play. Depending on the activity, creative play may take place indoors or outdoors, offering new opportunities for hands-on learning.

OUTDOOR EXPLORATION

Whenever weather permits, children explore nature and engage in gross motor play. Outdoor time includes a mix of structured activities– such as scavenger hunts, obstacle courses, and simple team games– along with free play, where children can move, climb, and discover at their own pace. If the weather is unsuitable for outdoor play, we continue the fun with gross motor activities in our indoor gym.

ACTIVE STORYTIME

Storytime is an engaging and interactive experience at London Lane Daycare! We read or tell stories that encourage participation through repetition, movement, and music. Whether acting out a character, clapping to a rhythm, or singing along, children develop early literacy skills while having fun.
